The tree goats of Morocco cavort high up in the Argania trees, eating the fruit and enjoying life. The farmers then harvest the seeds from their dung and make highly sought after Argan oil, used in beauty products and gourmet foods. After some rumination, this song on art, commerce and life emerged from their story. Enjoy!

The Tree Goats of Morocco

(To Be Sung When Music/Art/Theater/Pole Dancing Students Asks if They Have What it Takes):

Verse One:

You ask for my blessing and my judgment
You wonder if you’re right to chase your dreams
You ask me if you have enough talent
With hope and fear both bursting at your seams.

But I’d say these aren’t really the right questions
It’s not talent that you need but lots of grit.
And the only way to do it is to do it
Though you may wade through an ocean of horse spit.

Chorus:
May you thrive like the tree goats of Morocco
Climbing high in the Argania tree
Nabbing the sweet fruits that they long for
Gobbling them down so greedily

If you’re lucky
You’ll be treasured for your passion
As gourmets love Argan oil from goat manure

May you thrive like the tree goats of Morocco
And may your output
Be as valued and pure.

Verse Two:
I’m not trying to be flippant.
(That comes so naturally I never try.)
I just don’t know why some artists prosper
And just as good or better artists can’t get by

But no one gets everything they wish for
We’re all Sisyphus giving that big rock a shove
So do the harmless things that make you happy
And you’ll end up with a life that you can love.

Chorus:
May you thrive like the tree goats of Morocco
Climbing high in the Argania tree
Nabbing the sweet fruits that they long for
Gobbling them down so greedily

If you’re lucky
You’ll be treasured for your passion
As gourmets love Argan oil from goat manure

May you thrive like the tree goats of Morocco
And may your output
Be as valued and pure.
